IMPORTANT NOTES: 1) If you are in Canada, buying from an American supplier will impose taxes and duties that you are responsible for paying. Also, the additional time to ship will negate any savings you may have in the printing costs; 2) We encourage you to do a search (Google or Yahoo for example) for the company you want to do business with, and an additional search with the BBB to see if there any complaints; 3) Matte card stock, as one company advertises, doesn't show colours "vibrantly" which may not be suitable for graphic designers, artists and photographers; 4) Trade prices, as advertised above, means that the general public is not able to buy directly from them and that they expect designers, print brokers and printing companies to mark-up the prices listed on their site.

BBB Canada | BBB USA

Proudly issue-free with the BBB Canada for 14 years. Feel free to do your own search for our company, or any company you plan on doing business with. GFX Printing is not a member of the BBB.

4 Other Companies Fail the Price Comparison
for 5,000 4/4 Full Colour Postcards & Business Cards

We looked at 4 other companies online who advertise offset printing of business cards and postcards, and compared our prices to theirs.

It's in the Grade (of Paper, that is)

Our conclusion overall is that you need to compare apples to apples. We typically use a 14pt C2S (180 lb sub-weight coated-2-sides) stock that has a low dot gain for crisp images. Other printers typically use 12pt or lower. Fact: many online printing companies are outsourcing their printing altogether to China or India - and now the USA with the strong Canadian dollar -- you place the order online not knowing this and we're not sure if they would even tell you.

If your current printing company advertises 16pt or 18pt, check the grade of paper: if it's from an overseas mill, it's probably closer to a 10pt or 12pt North American paper. Some printers also add a few points for coating, i.e.: they'll use 12pt, then UV coat it, and call it 14pt. Before the internet, this was unfortunately very typical, and may still be occurring.

We get it ... the paper is cheap and some customers are looking for rock bottom prices and many printing companies only care about getting as many customers as possible, so end up using extremely low prices as loss leaders (a retail term to get you to buy one thing at a really low price, only to pay a substantially higher price for something else) and not care about the environment. We at GFX have yet to be tempted by cheap overseas papers that may harm the environment.

Offsetting Your Concerns

GFX is an offset printing company which use presses, not computers or highspeed copiers. When you're comparing prices, ask the printing company what kind of equipment they use. Digital and highspeed gets the job done 'instantly'. However, if you want 'photographic quality', use offset printing.

The above prices were compared online in January, 2008 for 5000 4/4 postcards and business cards. We also compared prices with familiar companies to ensure total fairness in this test.

Turnaround Time

For offset printing, GFX is among the fastest, both online and in the 'real world'. Order on Monday, and they'll be ready by Thursday or Friday (based on artwork supplied), and if you are in the Toronto area, you'll have them by Friday or Monday.

Still Not Convinced?

We can send you real paper samples of previously printed postcards and business cards.
